Flying to Singapore! First time to represent the Philippines
The Heart at Play Foundation (THP) has been providing free Dance Movement Therapy to marginalized Persons With Special Needs (PWSNs) for the past 8 years. This year, THP has been invited to perform in Singapore’s largest inclusive concert entitled: “An Extra-Ordinary Celebration” which will be held in the National University of Singapore’s University Cultural Centre. The performance trip will span from November 5-10, 2019 and guests of honor include the President of Singapore.
The concert, which champions awareness and solidarity for differently-abled persons is organized by Singaporean based institution, Extra-Ordinary People Ltd. and will feature various teams (performing groups) from different countries. This event marks the FIRST TIME a Filipino PWSN delegation of this size would be performing abroad for an international concert centered on “differently-abled” individuals. This milestone not only honors Filipino culture but also uplifts our marginalized PWSN community. We are even using DoT’s famed jingle “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” as we hope to highlight the uniqueness of Filipino culture.
The Heart at Play beneficiaries will be sent as the Filipino delegation to perform a thematic routine that showcases how children with Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and the other developmental disabilities, have improved through Dance Movement Therapy (DMT). The PWSNs will showcase Filipino traditions by incorporating folk-inspired themes and dances.
